Democracy
Democracy is the only form of society that enables everyone to live in dignity. However, democracy requires a willingness to compromise and not to put one's own interests above the interests of the community.
Role of the state
The state is often portrayed as a sluggish and money-wasting monstrosity. But we should never forget that:
- We are all the state
- Local, cantonal and federal administrations implement the tasks assigned to them by politicians.
- A considerable proportion of government spending is on social welfare.
- Only in a functioning state that enforces democratic rules and protects investment can the economy flourish in the long term.
Minimum wage
Any job that does not pay enough to live on is a subsidised job. The person affected is either dependent on another person or on state assistance. All those who are against a minimum wage should therefore not complain that the state is spending too much money.
public transport
Neither public transport nor private transport (roads) will be able to ‘guarantee’ the mobility that our society desires in the foreseeable future. It is therefore also wrong to play these two off against each other. Rather, we must question our mobility.
Tax
Who likes paying taxes? Probably no one. But without taxes, we would have neither roads nor schools. Taxes are therefore the price we pay for the services we want from the state. And because we live in a democracy, we can also have a say in what the state does. Side note: before we give ourselves another gift in the form of a 13th AHV pension, we should remember that someone will have to pay for it in the end.
